STM880 is a long setting alginate designed for layup molds like heads, half torsos and full torsos. The low slump property makes it much easier to apply than common dental alginates while reducing waste - making it much more economical than traditional formulas. Setting time is what sets STM880 apart from cheap dental alginate as alginate does not stick to set alginate, so if you run out of time, you need to start again. STM880 gives up to 8 minutes setting time, so it is perfect for beginners, or professionals to spend the time getting a great finish.
STM880 sets in approx. 8 minutes when using 26°C (80°F) water.
How much will I need?
There are two basic types of alginate moulds - The “Bucket Mould (for hands, etc.)” and the “Layup Mould (faces, torsos, etc.)”. The quantity required for a bucket mould depends on the size of the container used. With Layup moulds, the variance is the thickness of the mould, but typically 1/4LB (113g) will be plenty to do a face cast in a 1cm layer.
